Building an AI demo takes an afternoon. Building something you can put in front of paying customers takes months, and almost none of that time is spent on the model. It goes on evaluation, cost control, permissions, observability and the quiet work of knowing whether today's version is better or worse than last week's.
Substrat is aimed at that gap. Picks and shovels for people shipping AI products, built by someone who kept hitting the same walls.
It is early. I would rather say that plainly than dress it up.
