Marbella for remote teams: offsites, visiting founders, and why it works
What makes the coast a genuinely good place to bring a distributed team, how to run an offsite here, and what to avoid.
A lot of distributed teams end up here, and it is not only the weather. It is that the logistics genuinely work.
Why the coast works for a distributed team
Time zone. Central European Time covers most European teams, customers and investors, and overlaps enough with the US east coast to keep an afternoon usable.
Access. Málaga airport has direct flights to most of Europe, frequently and cheaply, and the drive down to Marbella is short. Getting fifteen people here from eight cities is easier than getting them to most other places.
Everything is close together. Hotel, workspace, dinner, beach, mountain. You are not spending half the offsite in vans.
It feels like a reward. People arrive in a good mood. That is not a small thing when the purpose is to get a team to actually talk to each other.
How I would run an offsite here

| Afternoon | One decision, or one activity — padel, boat, the mountains. Not both. |
| Evening | Dinner somewhere unhurried. No agenda. |
Two or three genuine decisions across a week is a successful offsite. A packed agenda produces notes nobody reads.
What to avoid
July and August. Traffic, prices, heat and a completely different atmosphere. May, June, September and October are the good months, and February is quietly excellent and very cheap.
Working from the hotel lobby. It never works, the wifi is shared with two hundred holidaymakers, and there is nowhere to take a call.
Trying to see all of Andalusia. Pick one thing outside Marbella — Ronda, the Istán reservoir, a boat — and do it properly.
Where to actually work
This is the gap I ran into myself and eventually built the answer to. The Pool is a workspace in Marbella for founders, operators and investors, with rooms you can take a board call in and people worth having lunch with. When teams come through town, that is where they work, and the visiting-founder side of it has become one of the most interesting parts of living here.

- Is Marbella a good place for a company offsite?
- Yes. It is in Central European Time, Málaga airport has direct flights across Europe, and hotels, workspace, beach and mountains are all within a short drive of each other. Book outside July and August, and get a proper meeting room rather than working from a hotel lobby.
- When is the best time of year for an offsite in Marbella?
- May, June, September and October. February is also excellent and much cheaper. July and August bring heat, traffic and high-season prices, and the coast feels like a different place.
- Where can a remote team work in Marbella?
- A coworking space with bookable enclosed rooms is the practical answer — hotel lobbies and villa terraces fail as soon as someone needs a call. The Pool Marbella was built for exactly this, for founders and operators working from the coast.
